Day 3 & 4 Training with Cart

Leave everything you think you know about making Theatre strip it down to the minimum and start again!

Bath time with bubbles

Bath time with bubbles

So I thought I knew about theatre making but when it comes to sensory Theatre I’m learning all over again. Think touch, sound, smell, taste and build from there. Try out ideas with the kids you are working with, see how they react. Do they enjoy the sounds? Do they like the feel of the material? Remember this will more than likely end up in their mouth when working with children with Profound & Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). What reaction will you get back? These were the challenges facing our devising group.

We were given the theme of water. After much thought we all agreed on Bath time with bubbles. We explored name songs welcoming the children into the space, the pouring of water and how it felt on our hands and the children’s hands. Music made by calming instruments settled the mood. Then it was time for the fun getting wet and splashing in bowls the smiles we’re phenomenal! Next came the bubbles making all when the king slept! The cast and audience were trying not to wake the king who didn’t like us playing and especially not with bubbles!
